Facebook and breakup etiquette U.S. 2010-07-30 05:36:41 (GMT) WiredPRNews.com – Despite a general consensus on beliefs about breakup etiquette, many Facebook users fail to follow the rules. As reported by LiveScience.com, interviews with college students and adults with ages ranging from 30 to 50 revealed social networking and mobile technologies have contributed to complications with how many people breakup and handle breakups thereafter. Ilana Gershon, an assistant professor of communication and culture at Indiana University in Bloomington, is quoted in the report as stating of her research, “I got really interested in the fact that all this technology is designed to connect with people, yet people [are] constantly dealing with the problem of how to disconnect.” Gershon notes that many of those interviewed admitted to habits such as continuing to peruse the pages of their exes after a breaking despite receiving no real satisfaction out of it. Gershon is further quoted as stating, “It’s giving them ‘hot Cheetos’ of information, so they get a taste of something - it tantalizes but doesn’t satisfy… They wanted closure or wanted to know who their ex-lover was now with, and they never really felt like they got the answers they wanted.” More information about Gershon’s findings is available in the new book, “The Breakup 2.0: Disconnecting over New Media” (Cornell University Press, July 2010). While the odds of divorce decrease with time, the Gores' split shows that differences can become irreconcilable at any point. July 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The End of Al and Tipper Gore's 40-Year Marriage Raises the Question After 40 long and tumultuous years of politics, publicity and prosperity, former Vice President Al Gore and his wife Tipper, famous in her own right as an author and outspoken advocate for the Parents Music Resource Center (the committee responsible for the "Parental Advisory" label on music albums that contain explicit lyrics), have announced their plans to divorce. Their high-profile split involves allegations that Al was an absentee husband and father and reportedly unfaithful, but it has also challenged the notion that long-time couples do not divorce. It is generally assumed that if a couple has been together for such a long time they would stay together for the rest of their lives, embodying the vow of being married "'til death do us part." Unfortunately, due to the inevitable growth of the parties in a relationship, wherein they develop their own personalities and explore their own opportunities (aided, for example, by longer life expectancy), distance between spouses can widen to the point of no return. The Gores cite this as the reason for their split: in a public statement, they said that they had grown apart. Can Marriages Stand the Test of Time? The vast majority of marriages destined for divorce end in the first decade; first marriages that dissolve typically do so in about eight years. While the odds of divorce decrease dramatically with time, the Gores' pending divorce shows that differences can become irreconcilable at any point. Surveys of divorcing couples have shown that many times a split is delayed early in the marriage because of a desire to provide stability for children, the fear of financial difficulty, or to "save face" to maintain a public persona. Surprisingly, the second highest divorce rate (after those splits occurring in a marriage's initial eight years) is among couples who have been married between 20 and 25 years. This is the time in which spouses have an opportunity to sit back and reflect -- the first years are typically filled with caring for children and building a career, so personal needs and desires are put on the back burner. As children become less dependent on parental support, and professional standing is established, life slows down a bit, freeing up time to think seriously about the likelihood that your spouse will be able to make you happy for years to come. Marriages that endure are ones filled with love, respect, mutual understanding of differences and a genuine affection for one another. They require attention and, honestly, hard work; happy couples are not born, they are made. If, despite your best efforts, you are thinking of ending your marriage, you should consult an experienced divorce attorney in your area. Doing so will help you explore your options and protect your rights. Facebook sued over alleged ownership deal Washington 2010-07-29 03:46:30 (GMT) WiredPRNews.com – Facebook has stated that a recent lawsuit filed against the company regarding ownership is without merit. As reported by AFP, the company dismissed the suit filed by Paul Ceglia of New York, who claimed to have an 84 percent stake in Facebook, as frivolous, and expressed intentions to fight it. As noted in the report, Ceglia alleges in the suit that he and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg entered into an agreement that he would acquire 84 percent ownership of the company for designing a website. Ceglia, who owns a wood fuel pellet company, was accused by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo last year of taking money from customers without providing them with products they paid for. Cuomo is quoted by AFP as stating of the matter, “This company and its owners repeatedly lied to consumers and continued to solicit new orders despite an inability to deliver wood pellets that were bought and paid for months before the winter heating season began.” Ask.com takes questions to users San Francisco 2010-07-28 18:54:01 (GMT) WiredPRNews.com – Ask.com is making a return to its question and answer format, which will allow the site to provide users with two sources for obtaining answers to their questions. Jolie is quoted as further stating about the mystery surrounding her character, “There’s a real duplicity to her personality… There’s a part of her that’s not necessarily a good guy, and because of certain things that happened to her, she’s a bit damaged. She’s not just heroic. She’s not even. She’s not just brave. There’s something a little off about her, and maybe there’s something off about me.” Twitter tweets about data center opening Salt Lake City 2010-07-25 19:29:04 (GMT) WiredPRNews.com – Twitter Inc. recently tweeted about plans for a new data center. It’s only understandable that people with largest electricity needs would look to Utah.” Twitter, which allows users to share messages in 140 characters or less, has a reported 300,000 new account sign ups daily 1 Hit TV Show America’s Got Talent to Launch First Ever Nationwide Tour Beginning October 1st in Oakland, CA Live Shows to Feature Host Jerry Springer with Performances by Season 5 Champion & Fan Favorites Tickets on Sale Friday, July 23rd at 10am LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--“America’s Got Talent,” NBC’s hit television talent show from American Idol producers FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell’s SYCO Television, will launch its first ever nationwide tour this fall, bringing the country’s most dynamic and diverse entertainers to 25 cities beginning October 1st at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA.
