WASHINGTON The U.S. Marshals Service announced today the addition of a Memphis man, who is wanted in Tennessee for first-degree murder and criminal attempt first-degree murder, to its list of 15 Most Wanted fugitives. Robert Lee King, 45, allegedly murdered his girlfriend Dorothy Smith and attempted to murder her 20-year-old daughter Diana Dec. 1, 2005. Diana Smith says she was awakened by an argument between her mother and King at 4 a.m., went to her mother's bedroom and witnessed King standing over and striking her mother. The 20-year-old ran from the room to call for help, but says King chased after her. She tried to lock herself in her bedroom, but King broke through the door, attacked her with a sharp object and cut her neck. King then fled from the home. After King left the house, Diana Smith went to check on her mother and found her lying on the bedroom floor bleeding profusely from a cut on her neck. When rescue personnel arrived, Dorothy Smith was pronounced dead on the scene and her daughter was transported to the hospital in critical condition. She was later able to identify King in a photo line up as the man who attacked her and her mother. Robert Lee King's vicious attack on the Smith family reveals his total lack of human decency. Capturing him is one of our highest priorities, said U.S. Marshals Service Director John F. Clark. We will use all available resources to bring this violent criminal to justice. Diana Smith has made a full recovery and continues to assist law enforcement in capturing the man she claims so callously took her mother from her. I am glad the U.S. Marshals Service is now involved with this investigation. Once King is brought to justice my sister and I can stop looking over our shoulders and have some peace of mind knowing he will be off the streets, Smith said. King is a black male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and medium skin tone. He has no known scars or tattoos. A $25,000 reward is offered for information leading directly to King's arrest. Anyone with information regarding King's location is asked to contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office, call the U.S. Marshals 24-hour hotline at 1-800-366-0102 or provide information at www.usmarshals.gov. |

Pensacola, FL – The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force is asking for help in locating a man wanted for Obstruction of an Investigation by Tampering with Evidence of a Human Corpse and who is a suspect in a woman’s murder in Texas. Police and the U.S. Marshals in Houston, TX are searching for convicted killer Dennis Ray Anderson, 64, after a Crime Stoppers tip led authorities to find a woman's body in a barrel at his Houston-area home last Thursday. It is believed that Anderson fled the Lake Charles area of LA Sunday night on a Greyhound bus and was headed to Pensacola due to arrive around 5:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Anderson is a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing about 230 pounds with blue eyes; he has receding white hair and may or may not wear glasses. He was last seen wearing a grey short sleeve button up shirt, blue jeans, tan work boots and a black NASCAR cap with yellow stripes/flames on it. Anderson was also reportedly carrying a small black/brown leather bag and a “six pack” blue and white cooler. It is believed that Anderson has no connections to the Pensacola area and was actually headed for Ft. Lauderdale or Boston, MA. It is also believed that he has no money and will be on foot looking for a place to stay or food. Investigators have developed information that Anderson may be in possession of a gun and is to be considered armed and dangerous. Anderson should not be approached by the public. Anderson had been sentenced to life in prison for the 1972 slayings of a woman and her 3-year-old granddaughter during an antique shop robbery. In 1973, he was also convicted in Hardin County, Texas of arson, for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a theft, for which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Anderson was paroled in 1989 and ordered to remain on parole supervision for life. In February of 2010 Anderson was charged in Harris County with robbery causing bodily injury after he was accused of choking a woman and threatening to kill her. If anyone has information on Anderson’s whereabouts, they are asked to immediately contact the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force investigators at (850) 776-3019 or (850) 554-6602 or local law enforcement. Desecration of Mojave Desert Cross Does Not Deter The American Legion in its Fight to Protect Memorials
INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The American Legion vowed to continue its fight to preserve a veterans’ war memorial in the Mojave desert, even after vandals have apparently removed the cross in the middle of the night. “the Constitution does not oblige government to avoid any public acknowledgment of religion’s role in society.” “This was never about one cross,” said The American Legion National Commander Clarence E. Hill. “It’s about the right to honor our nation’s veterans in a manner in which the overwhelming majority supports. The American Legion strongly believes the public has a right to protect its memorials.” The lawless act is just the latest chapter in a decade-long legal fight pitting The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Liberty Institute and several other organizations against the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups that find the cross offensive. According to a statement issued by the Mojave National Preserve, the cross was reported missing on Monday morning by staff of the National Park Service who went to the site to replace the wooden cover that had been removed from the cross sometime earlier. The cross has stood for the last 76 years as a memorial to World War I soldiers. The American Legion and its allies won what was widely believed to be a Supreme Court victory on April 28, when the court ruled that the memorial was not an overtly religious symbol. Moreover, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that “the Constitution does not oblige government to avoid any public acknowledgment of religion’s role in society.” The Supreme Court ordered a lower court to reconsider the case. The desecration of the memorial did not sit well with Hill. “Reports that the Mojave Cross was illegally removed overnight are very disturbing,” he said. “The American Legion expects whoever is responsible for this vile act to be brought to justice. While the memorial has been attacked, the fight will continue to ensure that veterans memorials will remain sacrosanct.” “This is an outrage, akin to desecrating people’s graves,” said Kelly Shackelford, president / CEO of Liberty Institute. “It’s a disgraceful act on the selfless act of our veterans. We will not rest until this memorial is re-installed.” A $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call (760) 252-6120. With a membership of 2.5-million wartime veterans, The American Legion was founded in 1919 on the four pillars of a strong national security, veterans affairs, Americanism, and patriotic youth programs. Legionnaires work for the betterment of their communities through more than 14,000 posts across the nation. from Webmaster B. javamanmonk: as a member of the American Legion, all I can say is pitiful, the folks that desecrate national monuments, evidently don't have enough to do. When you are caught, I'm sure you will be made busy, breaking big ones into little ones, and there are a lot of rocks in the Mojave Desert! :( U.S. Marshals Add Drug Trafficker to 15 Most Wanted Fugitive List

Washington The U.S. Marshals have added a suspected child killer to their 15 Most Wanted fugitive list. Simon Lopez is wanted for the murder of a 1-year-old child. Lopez, 26, has been charged in Tyler, Texas, with capital murder and assault. Lopez was babysitting his girlfriends two young toddlers, ages 1 and 3, while she went to work on the morning of Nov. 23, 2010. Soon after, Lopez contacted the childrens aunt and notified her Jeremy Sylva, 1, was not breathing. Lopez then dropped the child off at the aunts house. The young boy was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead. The medical examiners determined he died from a torn atrium in his heart due to blunt force trauma to his chest. They also discovered other signs of abuse including strangulation, broken ribs and severe bruising over the childs body. No criminal act is more disturbing than committing violence against a child, especially when the injuries inflicted are fatal, said Geoffrey Shank, Acting Assistant Director of Investigative Operations for the U.S. Marshals Service. His addition to the 15 Most Wanted program will enact all available resources to bring this violent fugitive to justice. Recent leads in this case led law enforcement to a hotel in Dallas. When officers from the Dallas Police Department attempted to apprehend Lopez, he struggled with the officers, unsuccessfully tried to take an officers weapon and managed to evade arrest. He is wanted in Dallas for assault on a public servant. Jeremy Silva was an innocent child, and this was a brutal crime of violence, said Dan Phillips, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Texas. Simon Lopez is a dangerous fugitive with a violent criminal history who is actively on the run, but we will find him. There will be justice for Jeremy. Lopez has an extensive criminal history including arrests for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing bodily injury, unlawful carrying a weapon, possession of marijuana and theft. Lopez is a white male of Hispanic descent, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has a mole on his forehead and a tattoo on his neck. Lopez is considered armed and extremely violent. A reward up to $25,000 is offered for information leading directly to Lopezs arrest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office or the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center at 1-800-336-0102. |
