Federal Grand Jury Indicts 55 Members and Associates of the Pagans Motorcycle Club

The indictment, returned on Oct.1, 2009, was unsealed today by the court. The indictment alleges that PMC members and associates have engaged in racketeering activities since March 2003. According to the indictment, in March 2003, PMC members, at the direction of Moore, traveled to Huntington, W.V., and restrained and beat a member of another motorcycle gang, the Road Disciples Motorcycle Club (RDMC), in an attempt to extract information from the victim in order to find the RDMC president.

Moore ordered the PMC members to find the RDMC president to collect money and to threaten to shut down the RDMC if the president failed to comply with Moore’s orders. The indictment also alleges that in September 2005, Moore and other PMC members and associates conspired with a prison guard to kill an inmate suspected of cooperating with law enforcement. Statement by Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr.

on the 220th Anniversary of the U.S. Marshals

WASHINGTON – For 220 years, stretching back to the birth of our republic, United States Marshals and their Deputies have developed a tradition of professionalism and valor. As our nation has changed, so too have the Marshals. As the challenges they face have evolved, so too have the skills of these remarkable men and women.

Unchanged however, are the qualities President Washington sought as he selected the first 13 U.S. Marshals -- individuals who would "discharge their respective trust with honor to themselves and advantage to their country."

Their primary mission is to protect the federal courts and ensure the effective operation of the judicial system, and their core values are "justice, integrity and service." In my experience, there are no finer public servants than the men and women of the United States Marshals Service.

As a judge with the District of Columbia Superior Court, as a U.S. Attorney and as the Deputy Attorney General, I worked alongside and was protected by the fine men and women of the U.S. Marshals

FACE RECOGNITION TRAINING GIVES OFFICERS HANDS-ON ADVICE ON CAPTURING CUSTODY IMAGES

Face recognition experts OmniPerception will be running a series of free training workshops in three separate venues to help frontline police officers capture and make effective use of images of suspects captured in custody.

The free one-day training courses will also give practical, hands-on advice on the inter-changeability and inter-operability of facial images within and between individual forces.

Courses will also provide a valuable insight into the use of facial image data as an additional 'tool in the box' for criminal investigations as well as how to capture video identification parades as part of the custody process.

Forces including Merseyside, Hertfordshire and City of London currently use Digital Image Booths (DIB) supplied by the DW Group with OmniPerception’s AFIT.QA image quality assurance software to take custody images of suspects that are compliant with national standards as laid out by the Police Standards for Digital Image Capture (PICS).

“It’s vital that frontline officers are provided with the necessary training and support to allow them to get the best out of this cutting edge technology,” said OmniPerception CEO Stewart Hefferman. We hope that our training days will provide officers will practical tips and advice about how to achieve this.”
